Not all of us are blessed with a musical gift or the wear with all to “pick it till your fingers bleed”. Welcome to the world of a non-musician and/or non-singer; an "NS" as we were referred to in my college Music Methods course.
I was formally educated to be an elementary school teacher, which includes teaching music. The world of a NS is tantamount to being in the wrong high school clique; a soci instead of a jock. No matter what group you associated with, as a NS you are always in the wrong clique.
After exploring the world of an elementary school teacher I realized that maybe a different direction was in order. Teaching was still at the top of the agenda but nowhere was it noted that music was my strength. As the years passed my appreciation grew even if my musical skills did not.
I talked more and more to the musically blessed and became fascinated with their backgrounds. My wife and I moved to Corvallis in 2004 and discovered an abundance of musical people in a wonderfully creative city. This change further fueled my interest in the “back beat” of the musician. What has gone on during and before the years of their being on the stage is the seed of their story. I am loving this project because I get to hear what guides and drives these talented people.
Hopefully you will enjoy this too!
